For the Black community present that day, this piece represents everybody’s grandmother — our Nana, our ancestors, and all those who came before us. The generations who carried our stories, endured the struggles, and paved the way for us to stand where we are today.

This painting is a tribute to them.

A reminder that we are standing on the shoulders of those who came before us, and that the work they started is now in our hands.

Hopefully, we can finish what they started.
